Uploading
Uploading is the process that transfers the files on your PC's hard drive to the server at your ISP or web host.
Often this is done by File Transfer Protocol (FTP) using a program on your PC. There are lots of FTP clients available and they are comprehensive and easy to use. All you need to know are a few details from your ISP, that will probably be on their user web pages - they may also provide links to suitable FTP clients. If you are using Microsoft Word to create your web pages you can upload your files using the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard. Programes like FrontPage and DreamWeaver have built-in publishing facilities.
The following FTP programs are available from the web (most are time limited trial versions):
Cute FTP: http://www.cuteftp.com
Fetch (for Mac OS): http://fetchsoftworks.com
Netfinder (for Mac OS): http://www.ozemail.com.au/~pli/netfinder/
CoffeeCup FTP: http://www.coffeecup.com/
Terrapin FTP: http://www.terra-net.com/
FTP Explorer (shareware, free for personal use): http://www.ftpx.com
Some ISP's provide a different means of uploading your files, either by a form or page builder on their web site. Either of these will be simple to use, but may take a bit more time to upload files, and you may not have the same control over your files.
